Find or add an item by barcode

Scan a barcode to review an item already in your shop, or add a new item with that barcode.

Open Utilities → Import from Barcode. Scan with a USB barcode scanner that sends Enter, enter a code and click Find, or use the camera button on Android. To check several codes, expand Add multiple barcodes, paste one per line (or separate them with commas), and click Find barcodes.

If the barcode belongs to a current item, its name, category, unit, rates, tax, HSN/SAC, and stock appear for review. That item is already in your Item/Stock list. Click Review or edit item to change it; no duplicate is created by finding it.

If no item has that barcode, the screen says so. Click Review and add item to open the item form with the barcode filled in. Enter the item’s required details and save it there. The new item then appears in the Item/Stock list. Nothing is saved merely by scanning or pasting codes.

The barcode lookup uses this shop’s local item catalogue. It does not fetch product details from an online barcode database. A code with no local match therefore needs its name, prices, GST and other details entered by the shop.
